As snow, sleet and freezing rain is likely to approach the Heart of Virginia this weekend, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Wakefield Thursday afternoon issued more approximate snow or sleet projections ahead of the storm.

According to probabilistic snowfall estimates in Buckingham, Cumberland and Prince Edward, anywhere from 4-5 inches of snow is possible, with some high-end estimates in individual counties reading up to 7 inches.

A chance of snow is expected Saturday after 1 p.m. At that time, new snow accumulation of less than a half-inch is possible. The snowfall, possibly mixed with freezing rain, will pick up Saturday night. Chance of precipitation Saturday night is 90 percent. New snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Snow, sleet and freezing rain is projected Sunday before 4 p.m., with a chance of precipitation at 90 percent.

There is a chance of snow and freezing rain Sunday night before 1 a.m., though chances are lower at 60 percent.

While a chance of snow is projected for Monday in Farmville, the chance of precipitation is also lower at 30 percent.
