Weather update: 3-7 inches possible for area

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Wakefield is projecting between 3-7 inches of snow in advance of Sunday’s winter storm.
The NWS issued a winter storm watch for the area Friday and the Office of the Governor declared a State of Emergency in Virginia Saturday morning.
According to the NWS, Snow is likely Sunday before 1 p.m., then snow possibly mixed with rain. Chance of precipitation is 90% percent. New snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible. Going into Sunday night, snow likely, possibly mixed with rain, mainly before 1 a.m. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
Probabilistic snowfall rates, or estimations of what areas such as Green Bay, Hampden-Sydney, Trent’s Mill and Dillwyn could receive, range from anywhere as low as 3 inches to as high as 14 for some areas.
