Town seeks residents’ input

Leadership with the Town of Farmville is requesting that residents provide their thoughts and ideas concerning the town’s future through a survey the town recently released.
The survey can be found online at farmvilleva.com/comprehensive-plan-citizen-survey or in print at the Farmville Town Office, 116 N. Main St., and the Barbara Rose Johns Farmville-Prince Edward Library at 1302 W. Third St.
The Comprehensive Plan Citizen Survey is the latest step in the town’s overhaul of its comprehensive plan, zoning ordinance and subdivision ordinance, which began in August.
The town has already hosted two community meetings in reference to the overhaul.
The Town of Farmville website defines the comprehensive plan as “a long-range planning document meant to help guide future town decisions, programs, and development.”
“The survey is an opportunity for residents and neighbors of Farmville to share their thoughts and opinions on that future,” the town website continued.
The deadline to submit the survey is Jan. 31. Residents from Prince Edward County and Cumberland County can also take the survey.
Questions on the survey include an option to choose up to three things one values most about the Town of Farmville as well as concerns about the town’s future, suggested plans that the town should pursue, ranking the facilities the town should most improve, such as roadways and water service, questions concerning residential and commercial development, and what the Town of Farmville should look like in 10 years.
According to town officials, the feedback will be used by members of the town council, planning commission and town staff to update the Town’s Comprehensive Plan.
“The most important function of the plan is that it represents the vision and concerns of the people who live, work, and use the Town every day,” the Farmville website cited.
Assistant Town Manager C. Scott Davis said the survey is set to be promoted via the town’s website, the town Facebook page, ads in the newspaper, potentially via radio stations and via flyers included in residents’ water bills.
