Those who experienced snow on Wednesday in the area can expect more snowfall over the weekend, according to preliminary reports from the National Weather Service (NWS) in Wakefield.

The NWS reported Wednesday that the areas of Buckingham, Cumberland and Prince Edward can expect some snow accumulation Sunday, lasting into Sunday night and Monday, according to a meteorologist with the NWS.

The area received some snowfall Wednesday morning, with accumulations reaching up to half an inch, according to the NWS.

Mike Dutter, meteorologist with the NWS, said Wednesday that the incident is still too far away to project exactly how much snow is expected, but said some accumulation is likely, with the potential for mixing of rain.

Dutter said the weather situation coming to the Piedmont region depends on a number of factors.

“It’s a very complex storm system that’s coming out of the southern plains, and Deep South this weekend,” Dutter said. “Depending on the exact track, and how much cold air is in place, there’s a possibility of some accumulating snow Sunday into Monday.”

The Piedmont region encompasses Buckingham, Cumberland and Prince Edward counties.

Dutter said in light of the weather forecast, now is as good of a time as any to prepare one’s vehicles and homes for winter weather.

“We are getting into winter, so it’s never too early for people to be thinking about exactly what they would do if you did see snow,” Dutter said. “Prepare your vehicles, get your winter coats out.”

In advance of the weather, Piedmont Senior Resources announced Wednesday that drivers will bring home delivered meals to clients on Friday, Dec. 7, in Cumberland, Prince Edward and Buckingham counties. Meals in Prince Edward and Buckingham are normally delivered Monday and Tuesday respectively.
