Horse dies from accident

Vehicle accidents that occurred Saturday resulted in the driver in one accident being transported to the hospital. A second accident claimed the life of a horse.
Randolph Volunteer Fire Department Captain Dan Pempel said the first accident occurred Saturday at 3 a.m. along the 1800 block of Cumberland Road. Pempel said the vehicle went out of control and ran off the road. Photographs of the accident provided by those on scene also indicate that the vehicle went off the road.
Pempel said the driver of the vehicle was transported to Centra Southside Community Hospital. He said as of Wednesday morning there had been no updates concerning the driver’s condition. Pempel said the driver was not wearing a seat belt.
The second accident reportedly occurred at approximately 6 p.m. Saturday at the 1900 block of Plank Road. The vehicle struck a horse on the road, according to Pempel. Pempel said the driver of the vehicle did not require medical attention. Pempel said the horse died as a result of the accident, and it is not known who owned the horse.
