The Cumberland County Planning Commission is set to hold a public hearing Jan. 7 in reference to a conditional use permit to install a larger gas pump canopy at the developing Raman Midway Market at 3156 Cumberland Road.
County Planning and Zoning Administrator J.P. Duncan said the gas pump canopy would be for the market.
Duncan said the new canopy would serve as the roof for the gas station area. The proposed canopy would be larger than the one currently present at the location.
“There’s a canopy already there,” Duncan said Wednesday. “They’re just going to tear it down and replace it with one that is larger.”
According to a copy of the application, the applicant is Tabitha Gaulding, representing Phillips Aluminum Co. based in South Hill, the company installing the canopy.
Gary Singh, who is developing Raman Midway Market with wife and owner Pilvinder Kaur, said Wednesday that the new canopy would be approximately 24×36 feet. This was also confirmed by Gaulding.
Singh said the renovations to the store are nearly complete. He said he expects that the store would be opened before the gas pumps.
The planning commission meeting is set to be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Cumberland County Community Center, located at the corner of Anderson Highway and Forest View Road, Room C-8.
