Prince Edward County High School sophomores Saad Khan, left, and Josie Hemmer competed in the Virginia High School League Class 2 State Cross Country Championships on Nov. 9-10 at Great Meadow Foundation in The Plains after qualifying for states at the Region 2A Championships on Nov. 1 at Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville. Hemmer qualified for her second state meet by finishing the regional race with a time of 23 minutes, 11 seconds, placing 15th out of 61 runners. Khan qualified for the state meet with a time of 18:46, placing 10th out of 90 runners. At states, Khan finished 57th out of 104 runners, completing his run with a time of 18:45; Hemmer placed 58th out of 101 runners, producing a time of 22:41.
