Reality Store at BCHS

Buckingham 4-H partners with the economics and personal finance classes at the Buckingham County High school each year to offer Reality Store. This is a real-life simulation where students are given a job, a paycheck, and any number of family situations. They must then balance their wants and needs to pay their bills for the month as well as put some money aside in savings for later. Many youth are surprised at how much their parents pay for certain things such as cell phones. They are also surprised to learn how expensive it is to raise children. The financial simulation helps them put a real world application to what they are learning in class. Volunteers who helped make the event happen are pictured, from left, front row, LaToya Chambers-Lewis, Irma Ogden, Kristen McColgen; back row, Donna McRae-Jones, David Ogden, Elise Corbin and Charlene Bardon; not pictured are Marjorie Chambers and Barbara Teeple.
