Halloween events set to be treats

Families in our Tri-County coverage area should expect a pleasant variety of Halloween celebrations in whichever county they celebrate the day. Here is a sampling of a few events that will take place around the region:

BUCKINGHAM

The Town of Dillwyn and the Buckingham Chamber of Commerce is set to hold a communitywide Halloween and trick-or-treating celebration on Dillwyn’s Main Street Wednesday from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Arvon Baptist Church at 28350 N. James Madison Highway is set to hold a trunk-or-treat celebration Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. after being postponed from its original Saturday date.

CUMBERLAND

Payne United Methodist Church, Shiloh New Covenant Church and Fitzgerald Memorial Church are hosting a Cumberland Trunk or Treat. Three parking lots of cars with candy and goodies, trick or treating for the kids and fun for all. Wednesday, from 5:30-7 p.m. at 14 Fitzgerald Road, Cumberland.

Trunk or Treat at Cartersville Volunteer Rescue Squad from 5:30 – 8 p.m. at 1667 Cartersville Road

FARMVILLE

Halloween celebrations on Main Street will kick off with the annual costume parade, set to begin at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Main Street will shut down at 3:15 p.m.

According to documentation from the Farmville Recreation Department and the Downtown Merchants, children and parents can deck out in their best costumes.

After the parade at 4:30 p.m., those same costumed families can participate in Pumpkins on the Plaza. The event will include pumpkin decorating, face-painting, crafts, games and prizes. Refreshments sold on-site will benefit the Friends of the High Bridge Trail State Park. The activities will last until 7 p.m.

New Life Church will hold a Fall Festival Wednesday, 5-8 p.m. at the Farmville Community Marketplace at 213 North St. The event will include hayrides, games, prizes, face painting, hot dogs, catering from The Fishin’ Pig, firetrucks and teen games among other activities.

Enjoy a Halloween Party for All ages at The Fishin’ Pig located at 5169 Farmville Road. Kids in costume 12 and under eat free, all day and night. From 5-8 p.m. enjoy free candy, popcorn, face painting, games and a photo booth.

For the over-21 crowd, check out the Halloween Party and Costume Contest at the Catbird Rooftop Terrace at Hotel Weyanoke.

The event will take place from 5-11 p.m. Participants can win cash and prizes by participating in the costume contest, and enjoy some crafty Halloween-themed drinks at the bar. DJ Kevin will provide entertainment.
