Cumberland County High School’s varsity football team is lacking some of its star players due to injury, and they could not afford that loss Friday against the elite Goochland High School Bulldogs. The host Dukes fell 52-0.
Sharing the story of the game, Cumberland Head Coach Jamaal Artis said, “We’re just really banged up and really, really young.”
He noted that in the second quarter, all on-field Dukes were either sophomores or freshmen.
But he made it clear — “The guys didn’t quit. They played hard.”
Senior tailback K.J. Copeland had 11 carries for 48 yards, and sophomore quarterback Ramir Parker had 10 carries for 48 yards.
The Dukes (0-6) visit Buckingham County High School (2-4) on Friday at 7 p.m.
