Tropical Storm Michael’s recent presence in the Heart of Virginia will affect the status of the area’s schools Monday. Prince Edward County Public Schools (PECPS) and Cumberland County Public Schools (CuCPS) will be closed, and operating on a 2-hour delay will be Fuqua School.
As of this writing, Buckingham County Public Schools had not made any announcement indicating that its regular schedule was being altered in any way.
On its Facebook page Sunday, PECPS stated, “Due to continued power outages and road debris, Prince Edward County Public Schools will be closed tomorrow, October 15, 2018.”
Included in the same posting was the following message: “Free meal to community members from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the middle school cafeteria, tomorrow 10.15.18.”
Expanding on the message, Food Service Supervisor Bruce Davis stated, “Prince Edward County Schools will be serving lunch on Monday October 15 from 11-1 at the middle school. This is open, free of charge, to all children and parents. For more information call 315-6111 after 8 a.m.”
The varsity football game between Prince Edward and host Central Lunenburg High School, set for 7 p.m. Monday, has been postponed more than a week to Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m.
After first announcing a 2-hour delay, CuCPS issued the following update around 7:15 p.m. Sunday on its Facebook page: “Due to road conditions that will not be resolved overnight, CuCPS will be CLOSED tomorrow, Monday, October 15, 2018. 12-month employees are to report on time. CuCPS will host a Community Lunch from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. tomorrow in the CMS/CHS Cafeteria for Cumberland residents and families. Residents may come fill water jugs in front of CMS from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.”
Fuqua announced Sunday in an alert on its website that it “will operate on a 2-hour delay tomorrow, Monday, October 15. This means morning Falconcare will not be available.”
