Cumberland County High School’s 2018 varsity golf team was young but gained valuable experience this season, putting the Dukes back on the competitive map after they did not have enough players to generate team scores last season. At Monday’s Class 1 Region B tournament on the course at The Manor Golf Club in Farmville, Dukes sophomore Thomas Bryant III shot an 18-hole round of 94 and advanced to play in the Virginia High School League Class 1 state tournament on Monday and Tuesday at Lonesome Pine Country Club in Big Stone Gap. Cumberland team members pictured include, from left, freshman Jack McCutcheon, freshman Michael Ward Jr., freshman Calvin Foster, Bryant and Head Coach Monroe Preston.
