Bear Creek Lake State Park is hosting a special Barktober event Saturday, Oct. 27, so the whole family can trunk-or-treat at the campground and show off their pups’ talents.
The day’s activities are scheduled from noon-6 p.m. and include a craft station from 1-2 p.m. for guests to make doggie bags to carry their treats.
An agility course open from 1-4 p.m.
A costume contest at 2 p.m. with two categories: best dog costume or best dog-human look-a-like. Dog costumes will be judged on creativity and originality. For the look-a-like award, judges will be looking for dogs that look most similar to their human handlers.
At 3 p.m. a sit and stay completion to test your pups’ ability to first sit, then stay while you back away 6 feet.
Events wrap up at 4 p.m. with a pooch parade around the campground.
Camp sites will have designated markers indicating they are open to trunk-or-treating for pets and people alike.
No pre-registration is required for this free event, but daily parking rates apply. Parking is available at the Group Camp area and the Cumberland Multi-use Trail. For more information call (804) 492-4410.
