October lunch and learn program

Jeffrey Rogers, Environmental Program Planner, Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services in Richmond, will be the guest speaker Thursday, Oct. 4, at noon for the Heart of Virginia Master Gardener Lunch and Learn Program.
The program will be held at the Prince Edward Cooperative Extension Service Meeting Room, 100 Dominion Drive, Farmville. Bring your lunch and join other gardeners, farmers and homeowners. The pesticide collection, which had to be rescheduled due to Hurricane Florence, will now be held Oct. 17 in Prince Edward County.
Rogers will discuss pesticides and their proper storage and disposal. His office in Richmond is responsible for planning, coordinating and monitoring the development of statewide pesticide programs to conform to federal/state laws and policies, regulations and guidelines. Among other activities, he administers the water quality, pesticide disposal, pesticide container recycling, pesticide survey and endangered species programs. He will explain the proper storage and disposal of pesticides for home and commercial gardeners and farmers and answer questions about the upcoming pesticide collection for Prince Edward County.
