Dramatic lighting, energetic music, engaging models and appealing attire marked the second annual Moton Family Challenge Fashion Show, which was held Saturday afternoon in the Robert Russa Moton Museum Auditorium. As the museum noted in a press release, the Moton Family Challenge honors families whose school-aged children were at the center of the struggle for civil rights in education. Further highlighting the value of the challenge, the release cited that the Moton Family Challenge Scholarship Fund is awarded to two college-bound seniors who are direct linear descendants of students who were affected by the public school closing in Prince Edward County from 1959-64. At the show, models presented the work of a variety of designers and boutiques. Democrat Leslie Cockburn, who is running for Virginia’s 5th Congressional District seat, also spoke briefly to those attendance near the beginning of the event.
