The 2018 Buckingham County Youth League (BCYL) Major League All-Star baseball team made history this past summer. The squad went 7-2 overall, including a 5-0 run in the state tournament on the way to its second straight Dixie Youth Baseball Majors state championship and World Series berth. Buckingham improved on its 2017 World Series showing during which it went 0-2. This year, the team’s manager, John Toney, said, “I think I was told we were the first Virginia team from Majors to ever win a (World Series) game, and so we won two — that’s a big accomplishment. And I know we’re the first Buckingham team to ever win more than one game in a World Series” — at any age level. For their success, the Buckingham Majors All-Stars were recognized last week by the Buckingham County Board of Supervisors.
