Join the Second Annual Thor’s Hammer Saturday, Sept. 29, from 11 a.m.–6 p.m. at the B.A.R.N. facility located at 11851 W. James Anderson Highway in Buckingham for firefighter games and chili cook off. Enjoy live music, family fun, cake walks, chili tasting, bounce houses, food and drink, as well as cheer on your favorite firefighters as they compete. Chili cook off winners will result in cash prizes in the categories of the best firehouse chili, best vegetarian, best theme/ set up, and best overall. This is a benefit event for the volunteer fire departments that serve Buckingham County in loving memory of Thor Stish. Admission covers chili tasting, one hot dog or dessert, and one soft drink. Additional food and drink and attraction tickets will be available for purchase.
The Buckingham Chamber of Commerce will meet at 6 p.m. at Ellis Acres on Tuesday, Sept. 18, for the annual family picnic. Come out and enjoy this time with family and friends of the Chamber.
Third Annual Vino in the Village is coming Sept. 22 at The Historic Village. Enjoy great wine, delicious food, jazz and bluegrass music, and art in a lovely setting. The public library will feature a craft and games table as well. Don’t miss it.
The Buckingham Active Seniors is a fun group of individuals, ages 50 and above, from all backgrounds who come together to share common interests and explore new ones. It’s much more than having meetings. This group enjoys going on trips and tours, fundraising events, community service projects, celebrations and more. They love to have fun as well as giving back to our community. Membership is free. The Buckingham Active Seniors has grown tremendously since their start in late 2010 and hope to continue to grow every day. They strive for positive, informative and enjoyable quality programs and events for members to participate. Goals are to provide fun and exciting activities to senior citizens in Buckingham County, while educating seniors and giving back to others. They want to make a difference in other people’s lives and our community. Meeting dates are the second Tuesday of each month at 1:30 p.m. at the Old Dillwyn Primary School on U.S. Route 15 North. Everyone is welcome to join and bring a friend.
Join Buckingham 4-H for a fun after-school program for youth in grades 3-5 to be held in the BCES cafeteria on Wednesdays, Sept. 26, Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 after school until 4:45 p.m. each day. Explore the world through fun, hands-on activities and games. Snack provided. The same program will be offered for youth in grades K2 in the BCPS cafeteria on Mondays, Sept. 24, Oct. 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 after school until 4:45 each day.
