A 24-year-old man died after sustaining life-threatening injuries as a passenger in a vehicle crash in Prince Edward County early Saturday morning.
“A 2001 Ford Mustang was traveling southbound on Route 15 near Route 133 when the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing the car to run off the right side of the road, strike a sign and several trees then overturned,” Virginia State Police officials said in a news release.
Police said the vehicle’s driver, whose name had not been released, was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was ejected.
Police said the only passenger in the vehicle, Alexander Lloyd, of Appomattox, was transported to Southside Community Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
“He succumbed to those injuries later that morning,” police said. “He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.”
Police said speed is believed to be a factor in the crash.
“Charges are expected,” police said. “The crash remains under investigation.”
