Cumberland County Landfill Awareness Committee will have a community meeting concerning the proposed landfill to learn more and receive information about the stand against this issue. The next meeting will be held Sept. 9 at 3 p.m. at the Cumberland Community Center located at 45 south and Davenport Road.
The 2018 Annual Former Craddock Terry Shoe Factory breakfast meeting was held Saturday Aug. 11 at Teresa’s Place in Sprouse’s Corner. A nice crowd attended and enjoyed great food and fellowship.
The Cumberland County Board of Supervisors monthly meeting is held every second Tuesday unless otherwise announced at 7 p.m. in the Cumberland County Courtroom.
Happy birthday wishes are sent out this week to Stacy Cooke of Cumberland on Aug. 17, Barry Miles of Cumberland who will be 55 years young on Aug. 18, also Wayne Williams of Arvonia, Joe Covington of Dillwyn and Pastor Jim Lough of West Virginia, Mattie Bell Gilliam of Dillwyn on Monday, Aug. 20 and Bonnie McCoy of Appomattox on Wednesday, Aug. 22.
A benefit spaghetti dinner will be held for Lacey Baggett, age 3 of Cumberland, who was recently diagnosed with a very large brain tumor that has been removed but her recovery time will be a long road ahead. Come out and support Lacey and her family on Sunday, Aug. 26 at the Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department from noon – 6 p.m. Spaghetti dinners will be sold by donation only. There will also be raffles, silent auctions and local vendors. Music will be provided by Nelson and Karen Critcher.
Annual homecoming and revival services will be held at Hatcher Baptist Church of Cumberland on Aug. 23 – 26. Revival services will be held Aug. 23 – 25 nightly at 7 p.m. with special music nightly.
Homecoming services will be held Sunday, Aug. 26 beginning at 10:30 a.m. with gospel music at its best featuring “The Mylon Hayes Family” of North Carolina. This will be followed by the morning worship service with lunch to follow in the church fellowship hall. Guest speaker will be Evangelist Kenneth Cloud of Georgia.
