Regarding the news article titled “Questions for Authority” in the Farmville Herald’s June 8 edition — sad story with sad pictures. Why can’t people just clean up their property on their own? Property values just may increase and the neighbors will surely be happier.

Town and county officials, take some action. Immediately enforce codes, ordinances and court orders that relate to improving these unfortunate circumstances. If necessary, revise old codes or create new ones that help all residents who depend on their public representatives. This certainly should not take what seems like forever to accomplish.

If no efforts are made by those in authority, then every day they should drive by these properties with questionable maintenance and appearance. Hopefully, they will pause for a while, look around and enjoy the view!
