One Prince Edward-Farmville Youth Association (PEFYA) all-star baseball team will need to win out after Friday’s district tournament action, and the other was not able to complete its game before inclement weather ended competition for the day.
The PEFYA Majors All-Stars took a 9-0 lead over the Crewe-Burkeville All-Stars after the first two innings but then gave up 13 runs in the final two innings to fall 15-11 in the Dixie Youth Baseball Major League All-Star District 5 double-elimination tournament in Victoria.
Beginning play in the loser’s bracket, PEFYA will return to Lenhart Field on Saturday at 5 p.m. to face the Blackstone All-Stars in an elimination game.
Right next door to Lenhart Field, the PEFYA Instructional All-Stars played the late game against the Charlotte County All-Stars on Neblett Field in the Dixie Youth Baseball Instructional League All-Star District 5 Tournament. When action was halted due to lightning and an approaching thunderstorm, the game was tied 2-2 in the fourth inning.
The contest will resume Saturday at 3 p.m.
