Walter Cecil Stimpson

Walter Cecil Stimpson 99 of Farmville, VA passed away on April 22, 2018.

He was born in Cumberland County, VA to the late Thomas Gray and Leathie W. Stimpson on August 31, 1918. He grew up in Cumberland and was always popular in school. He excelled at and received honors in softball. He worked on the family farm until he joined the Army and served his country in WWII. When he returned he worked at the Farmville Creamery and married Pauline McCraw, his wife of 43 years. He was a long time active member of Brown’s Presbyterian Church and worked with the county board of elections for many years. He was a part owner and book keeper of Stimpson Oil Co.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Charles (Edna) and Millard (Martha) Stimpson.

He is survived by his only daughter Anna S. Garrett, faithful caretaker Grace Ownby, nephews C.T. Jr (Barbara) and Gray Stimpson (Angie); and nieces, Geraldine Sanderson (Billy) and Jeannie Haskell.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Puckett Funeral Home. Family received friends starting at 1:30 p.m. until the time of service. Interment was at Antioch Methodist Church Cemetery.
