A proposed recycling and disposal facility will be the subject of a community meeting taking place June 7.
The business was announced as Green Ridge Recycling and Disposal Facility.
The meeting, beginning 7 p.m. at Cumberland County Elementary School on 60 School Road, continues a conversation about a potential business coming to the county that has taken place between county supervisors and citizens.
An announcement published in The Farmville Herald noted that the meeting will be hosted by County Waste of Virginia and Cumberland County, with members of the board of supervisors and the developer of the project giving information and answering questions from the public.
A proposed location for the business was not provided by the county.
Discussion and rumors of potential development in the area of Route 60 have been the subject of public comment for the past few months, including rumors of a potential landfill in the area of Pinegrove Road.
Two potential items were also noted in the county’s fiscal budget, where the items, if approved, could total $600,000.
Jordan Butler, public relations coordinator with the Virginia Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission, said Cumberland County received a Southside Economic Development grant in the amount of $24,841 and a Special Projects grant in the amount of $975,039 from the commission. The funds will be used for a sewer expansion for an incoming business at the Cumberland County Business Park located on Commerce Road.
According to a copy of the grant application from the commission, the sewer expansion would be for a prospective business using the title, “Project Shield.”
When asked whether “Project Shield” was related to Green Ridge Recycling and Disposal Facility, County Administrator Vivian Seay Giles confirmed Wednesday that the grants were not related to the proposed facility.
