The Prince Edward County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously during its Tuesday meeting to accept the contract price of $648,830 to remove and replace the roof of the STEPS building.
Buffalo District Supervisor C.R. “Bob” Timmons Jr. broached the subject by referencing a recent closed session into which the board entered to discuss the STEPS building’s roof.
“The Properties Committee made presentations to the board in closed session about replacing the roof and the contract pricing that has come in for replacing the roof over at the STEPS building, and we neglected to vote on it after we came out of closed session,” Timmons said. “So, what we need to do now is we need to vote to accept the proposal of the pricing …”
He made a motion to accept the contract price of $648,830 to remove and replace the roof. It was seconded, and there was no discussion amongst the board before the unanimous vote.
A page of the board meeting packet addressed the issue with the following summary: “It is anticipated the county will receive a contract regarding the roof replacement of the building formally known as the STEPS Center prior to the scheduled meeting. Once the contract is received, it will be provided to the Property Committee and county attorney for review. If time permits the committee and attorney to complete their review, a recommendation will be provided to the board of supervisors.”
The recommendation in the board packet was to receive the Property Committee’s recommendation.
