The Buckingham County Public School Board issued a release Tuesday noting that the school division is taking a step in the process of searching for a superintendent.
The release cited that the school division created a survey to receive public input on qualifications that are needed for a new superintendent.
Current superintendent Dr. Cecil Snead announced he accepted a position as superintendent of Orange County Public Schools at the beginning of May. His last day with Buckingham County Public Schools will be June 30.
The school board will also hold a public hearing June 13, 7 p.m. at the Buckingham County Career and Technical Center at 98 Fanny White Road.
“Hiring a new superintendent is an important task for the school board, and we encourage that the public participate in the process of determining qualifications for our new superintendent,” School Board Chairman Thomas Hutcherson said in the release. “We hope that all community members will take time to fill out the online survey or attend the public hearing.”
Questions on the survey include listing top three areas of expertise the prospective superintendent should have, and offering input on what aspects of the prospective superintendent’s leadership management skills, personal characteristics and education level would be most important for the school division.
The survey can be accessed at www.surveymonkey.com/r/BuckinghamSearch.
The release noted that the school division will work with Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) to hire a new superintendent.
