Signs returning to town

Where are the Town of Farmville signs that featured the Longwood University and Hampden-Sydney College mascots?
Signs that welcomed drivers to Farmville with Longwood mascot Elwood and Hampden-Sydney College (H-SC) mascot Yank the Tiger have been noticeably absent in the past few weeks.
The signs, located throughout the town of Farmville, will be returned in the next few weeks, Town Manager Gerald Spates and the contractor for the signs confirmed.
Spates said the signs were removed to brighten the colors on the sign and mascots.
“The brightness of the signs were not what the designer had in mind,” Spates said. “We pulled them down to have them redone.”
He said that the 24 by 30 foot signs were removed by the town, and noted the redesign would not incur a cost on the town.
“They will probably be back up in another week or so,” Spates said.
Nathan Harbin, landscape architect with Harvey Design Land Architects in Lynchburg, the company who contracted the signs, said the company worked with Joe Giles Signs in Farmville to initially develop the signs and redo them to brighten the signs’ colors.
He said a representative from Harvey noticed the colors from the signs had come out darker than intended.
“It’s just about completed,” Harbin said about the signs.
The signs were voted to be installed by the Farmville Town Council during its May 2017 meeting. According to the May board packet, Spates was inspired to install the signs after seeing similar signs in Danville.
