The celebration included selections played by the school band and the Brian Graham Band; vendors providing beer, finger foods and other treats; balloon animals and other tricks from Teddy Spaghetti the clown and ending with an impressive fireworks show at the school ball field.
John Melton, head of Fuqua School, said the event was meant to unite families and friends and celebrate the school’s impact.
Melton said the celebration is a gathering of students, “friends of the school, and our alumni, and former teachers to celebrate the legacy of 25 years of providing the best possible independent school education for Central Virginia,” Melton said. “It really is quite a bit of a milestone for the life of the school.”
Fuqua School was established from a donation by business leader and Prospect High School graduate J.B. Fuqua in 1993 and from the J.B. Fuqua Foundation. The school had been the former site of Prince Edward Academy.
The event also brought awareness to the school’s campaigns for new bleachers for the gymnasium and to establish a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) lab.
Director of Alumni Affairs Tammy Frank said the event had garnered remarkable response from alumni. At one point during the event, Frank said she saw three generations of Fuqua School students enjoying the festivities.
“It made me happy,” Frank said.
