Local plans for the Cumberland County Public Schools (CUCPS) Special Education department and Career and Technical Education (CTE) department, in addition to policies for the school division, were voted for approval during Monday’s school board meeting.
Division Superintendent Dr. Amy Griffin and Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Operations Dr. Chip Jones confirmed following the meeting that there were no significant changes to the local plans for CTE and Special Education. The local plans are presented annually and detail goals to maintain county, state and national regulations for their respective departments, Griffin said.
“There are no additions,” Griffin said regarding the local plans. “Just updating.”
Changes to the most recent School Board Policy Manual, Griffin said, are minor and focus primarily on grammar, code and legal references.
“Most of the ones this time were technical changes,” Griffin said. “The Virginia School Board Association goes through policies on a routine basis, and they check for grammar and codes.”
“The majority of the following policy revisions are minor changes made due to updating legal references and cross-references,” the board packet for the meeting cited.
“Administration continually goes through the process of revising the School Board Policy Manual,” the packet noted regarding the policy manual. “A majority of the changes are dictated by legislative action resulting in the Code of Virginia being amended. Some policy changes are the result of court action or simply the need for new topics to be addressed.”
Griffin said the update to look out for will take place July 1.
“There will be a lot of policy changes that come that do affect what we do,” Griffin said about the revisions expected for July 1.
