A 56-year-old Pamplin man was killed following a single vehicle accident in Chesterfield County Sunday morning. According to Virginia State Police Public Relations Director Corinne Geller, a tractor-trailer was traveling south on Route 288 in the right lane when it swerved to the left to avoid a slow-moving vehicle in the right lane. The driver lost control and the tractor-trailer went off the left side of Route 288. The tractor-trailer went through the guardrail, struck the bride wall and landed below the overpass on Route 10.
At 11:38 a.m., Sunday (April 8), Trooper DuBois responded to the scene on Route 10/Iron Bridge Road right below Route 288. The driver, Ray J. Townsend, 56, of Pamplin, was transported to VCU Medical Center in Richmond, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The tractor-trailer was empty at the time of the crash. Chesterfield County Police, Chesterfield County Fire and EMS, and VDOT assisted at the scene. Virginia State Police Trooper M.J. DuBois is investigating the accident.
