Longwood Center for the Visual Arts’ (LCVA) Cabin Film Series returns Friday, April 13, with a much-anticipated screening of the 1982 film, “The Thing.”
The science fiction horror film, directed by John Carpenter, is based on the 1938 John W. Campbell Jr. novella “Who Goes There.” The film follows the story of American researchers in Antarctica who encounter an extraterrestrial parasite that has the ability to imitate other organisms.
The event, which will be hosted at the Longwood Cabin, 1401 Johnston Drive, is free and open to the public. No registration is required.
Before the screening, Dr. Chris McGee, associate professor in the English and Modern Language Department at Longwood, will lead a discussion on the conventions of this particular style of horror film.
This screening is a part of the cult film series hosted by the LCVA at the Longwood Cabin. Campfire-themed refreshments will be served.
