Joanna Michaelina Januszkiewicz

Joanna Michaelina Januszkiewicz slipped peacefully to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 27, 2018. She was born in Newark, NJ on August 23, 1934.

Joanna, the oldest daughter of the late Felix and Caroline Jaworski Szalus was the last surviving member of her Szalus family surviving her younger siblings John Szalus and Felicia Washco. In May 1955, Joanna married her husband Tadeusz Januszkiewicz and enjoyed the next sixty-three years being a loving wife and mother of six children. Joanna never sought fame and fortune for herself. It was the simple things she enjoyed in life, caring for her family, gardening, her Polish heritage, and perfecting her already perfect Babka bread and potato salad.

Joanna, always faithful to our Heavenly Father and having a deep loving devotion to our Blessed Mother and St. Anthony, served as a faithful member of St. Theresa’s RC Church of Farmville, VA.

Joanna is survived by her husband Tadeusz Januszkiewicz and her daughter Barbara Halasz and her spouse Lou and their children Theresa Maria, Laura Ann, Mary Claire, and Gabriel from New Jersey; Daughter Joan Ellen Januszkiewicz and her children Katrina Marie and Julia Christine from Fort Myers, FL; Son Thaddeus Januszkiewicz and his spouse Angela and their children Tara Lynn, Gina Marie, Brianna Lee, and Kaitlyn Ashley from Mooresville, NC; Son Frederick Januszkiewicz and his children Nicholas Frederick and Tiffany Lee-Ann from Memphis, TN; Daughter Thaddeua Maria Nowak and her spouse Ron and their children Michael Alexander and Kevin Anthony From Indiane Trail, NC; Daughter Reinette Januszkiewicz from Farmville, VA who devotes her life to the health and well-being of animals even taking into her home countless dogs and even a cat in need of love.

Joanna has also been blessed with ten great-grandchildren: Wyatt, Brody, Amelia, Sophia, Declan, Dominik, Chase, Aria, Calisi, and Kohen.

A funeral mass will be held for Joanna on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 10 a.m. at St. Theresa’s RC Church, Farmville, VA followed by interment in the Amelia Veterans Cemetery, Amelia, VA. Prior to the funeral mass, family will receive friends from 8-10 a.m. at St. Theresa’s Great Hall.

Joanna’s wish was in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to either St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Deborah Hospital Foundation.
