Hearing for water, sewer

A public hearing scheduled for April 11 will examine an amendment to its ordinance that could potentially provide a rebate of approximately $2,000 for citizens of the Town of Farmville who have purchased a water or sewer tap for residential use — with a similar discount for business or commercial use, a public notice from the town cited.
The rebate would be for any individual who has purchased water and/or sewer taps between July 1, 2017, and June 30, 2018, the public notice cited.
The hearing will take place at 6:45 p.m. at the Farmville Town Office on 116 N. Main St.
The rebate would be available upon “written proof of a building permit to construct a residence and issuance of a Certificate of Occupancy for new construction, and/or upon written proof that an existing residence is hooked up to the Town water/sewer system no later than Dec. 31, 2018,” the notice cited.
This measure would also potentially allow discounts for sewer connections for business and commercial projects within the Town of Farmville corporate limits, the notice cited.
The current cost of the commercial water and sewer connection, the notice cited, is $4,500 plus labor, materials and equipment to make the tap.
The amended ordinance would potentially allow the new cost for business and commercial to come to the equivalent of $2,000 per connection, not counting labor, materials or equipment costs.
“For any business or commercial development or similar project in the Town of Farmville, if the water and/or sewer tap is purchased between July 1, 2017, and June 30, 2018, and construction has commenced by Dec. 31, 2018, the Town shall issue a rebate in whatever amount is appropriate to reduce the cost of each water and/or sewer connection to be the equivalent of $2,000 per tap, plus labor, materials and equipment to make tap,” the notice cited.
