Hearing for construction camps

Published 3:30 pm Thursday, April 12, 2018

The Prince Edward County Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors will hold consecutive public hearings on April 17 to discuss amending its zoning ordinance to allow construction camps in the I-1, General Industrial District by special use permit. With that, the public hearings will also address two proposals for construction camps that would locate in the county.

The planning commission hearing will take place at 6 p.m., and the board of supervisors public hearing will be at 7 p.m.

The zoning ordinance currently does not have construction camps as a category for the I-1 General Industrial District by special use permit, according to a copy of the ordinance available on the county website.

One application is from Lapp Associates, LLC for a proposal to operate a construction camp on 300 Industrial Park Road.

The proposed land, according to the special use permit application, is on land Tax Map Parcel 023-A-1 and is approximately 40 acres.

The other special use permit application, from Rock and Metal, LLC, is for a proposed construction camp on 1815 Price Drive. The land is located on Tax Map Parcel 023B-1-V and is approximately 51 acres, the application noted.

Both properties are located in the I-1, General Industrial District.

The properties are “compatible with adjoining industrial zoned properties,” the applications cite.

Both properties note potential, normal traffic noise in the mornings and evenings.

The hearings will be located at the Board of Supervisors Room, at the third floor of the County Courthouse, 111 South St.
