Coverage includes games on ESPN platforms, radio and Big South Network
Longwood University baseball, softball and lacrosse teams are once again set for unprecedented coverage this spring. This coverage will be headlined by the final game of softball’s three-game series against conference rival Liberty University on ESPNU and a combined 10 games between baseball and softball on ESPN networks.
For the second consecutive season, Lancer softball will be featured on ESPNU during the network’s coverage of the 2018 regular season, as Longwood’s April 8 series finale against rival Liberty will be broadcast from Lancer Field with a 5 p.m. first pitch.
That game highlights a schedule in which the four-time Big South champion will be featured across ESPN platforms on four occasions. The Lancers will make their first appearance Saturday in the 2 p.m. series opener against Radford University. Longwood will also be prominently featured on ESPN platforms with a game on ESPN3 at Charleston Southern University on March 24, along with the squad’s April 10 game at the University of North Carolina on ACC Network Extra.
The Longwood baseball team will make one regular season appearance this season on ESPN3. That game comes Friday, March 30, at Charleston Southern. The squad has already played a trio of games on the SEC Network in its season-opening series at Auburn University and on ACC Network Extra at Duke University. Its March 27 contest at ACC powerhouse University of Virginia in Charlottesville will also air on ACC Network Extra.
The Centra Southside Game of the Week on WVHL-FM 92.9 Kickin’ Country will return again in 2018 with Voice of the Lancers Darius Thigpen on the call. Radio coverage was set to begin with a 30-minute coach’s preview show Wednesday from 12-12:30 p.m., featuring Longwood baseball Head Coach Ryan Mau and softball Head Coach Kathy Riley.
Four regular season baseball games and three regular season softball games will hit the airwaves, beginning with the second game of baseball’s conference-opening series against High Point University on Saturday. The baseball team will also be featured at Winthrop University on March 23, along with games against Radford on April 6 and Campbell University on April 23.
Meanwhile, the softball team will be featured three times throughout the course of the regular season. This includes the Lancers’ game against conference foe Campbell on March 30, the squad’s rematch of the 2016 NCAA Harrisonburg Regional at North Carolina on April 10 and the home finale against Duke on April 25.
All postseason games for baseball and softball will also be on the airwaves.
In addition, Longwood baseball, softball and women’s lacrosse will be featured a combined 16 times at home on the Big South Network throughout the spring, with seven baseball games, six softball games and three women’s lacrosse games.
Softball kicks off the coverage on the Big South Network on March 31 against Campbell with the Saturday doubleheader scheduled to air, along with a midweek doubleheader against commonwealth foe Virginia Tech on March 27 and a Saturday doubleheader with Liberty on April 7.
The baseball schedule on the Big South Network is set to begin with the final two games of its series against the University of North Carolina at Asheville on April 14- 15, along with midweek games against commonwealth rivals James Madison University on April 17 and the University of Richmond on May 9. In addition, the series finale against Gardner-Webb University on May 17-19 will be broadcast.
Beginning Saturday, March 25, against Saint Francis University, Longwood women’s lacrosse team will play the first of four games on the Big South Network at Elizabeth Burger Jackson Field, while other games on the network include Radford on April 4 and High Point on April 21.
Select home baseball and softball Big South Network broadcasts will also be available to watch on Shentel channel 81.
