Billy Lee Dempsey Jr.

Billy Lee Dempsey Jr., of White Street, Drakes Branch, passed away, Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2018 at his residence.
Born in Camp Lejeune, NC, Sept. 22, 1948, he was a son of Bill L. Dempsey Sr., and the late Mattie James Dempsey. Billy was General Manager and later owner of Hampden Sydney Service Center. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Billy was a member of the American Legion.
In addition to his father, he is survived by two sons, Eddie Dempsey, of Albuquerque, NM, and Billy L. Dempsey III and fiancé Tasha Knapp of Drakes Branch; one daughter, Maggie D. Penick of Drakes Branch; three sisters, Mickey D. DeLand and husband, Ronnie of Chattanooga, TN, Catherine D. Shannon of Meherrin and Teresa D. Norris and husband, Bob of Newport News; a sister-in-law, Brenda Dempsey; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Lindell Dempsey.
A Funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Friday, March 2, 2018 at Virginia Veterans Cemetery-Amelia with Rev. Elaine Tola officiating.
The family will receive friends at the residence of his daughter where his remains can be viewed until 11 a.m., Friday, March 2, 2018.
