The sixth annual Sweets in the Stacks event, held at Cumberland County Public Library on March 24, is set to give participants an enjoyable evening and perhaps a basket or two of goodies.
The event will be held from 4-6 p.m.
Librarian Robin Sapp said participants can expect approximately 38 baskets to be available during the event. She said patrons donate the baskets which have themes that range from kitchenware products born out of the Food Neywork show, “Pioneer Woman,” to making tea, to a romantic night in, even a basket of popular toys and games from the 1980s.
“As these baskets come in, we set them around the library,” Sapp said. She said participants can purchase raffle tickets prior to the event.
Proceeds from the event will go toward the library.
Sapp said the baskets will be just one of the features that people can expect from the evening.
“The event itself is the icing on the cake,” Sapp said. “You have wonderful food. It’s sweet and savory. There’s heavy hors d’oeuvres that patrons and other donors give that are just wonderful.”
Sapp said a keyboardist and a cellist will provide live jazz music during the event.
“It’s a very nice atmosphere,” Sapp said. She said for the first hour, people can eat, chat and buy raffle tickets.
Sapp said that at approximately 5 p.m., “we will start drawing our winners for the basket.”
For winners who have not been able to attend the event, she said they will be contacted the following business day.
“It’s an exciting experience,” Sapp said. “It’s really a time for people to come together and fellowship and enjoy the library and enjoy some good food and music and to get a gift.”
Sapp said door prizes will also be available at the event.
