William Russell ‘Bill’ Young

William Russell “Bill” Young, 82 of Lynchburg, passed away Monday, Feb. 12, 2018. Bill was born in Prospect, Va. and graduated from Farmville High School. Bill was a U.S. Army veteran and later attended both Kansas University and the University of Virginia. He was employed for 38 years with Central Telephone Company of Virginia and also a number of years with Shenandoah Telecommunications Company.
Bill thoroughly enjoyed and was an active member of the Lynchburg Morning Rotary Club where he was a Paul Harris Fellow. He also served in various other civic and community clubs through the years. Bill’s main love was his family, particularly his grandchildren. He also loved his Virginia Cavaliers and Washington Redskins.
Surviving are his loving wife of 53 years, Carole M. Young; son and daughter-in-law William Russell Young, II (Erin); granddaughter Emory Walker Young; grandson William Russell Young, III; brother Robert Young (Connie); sister Virginia Lee Schliefe; sister-in-law Celia Jo Young and a number of nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents Russell and Mary Walker Young; brother H. Walker Young; brother-in-law George Schliefe, and niece Kelly Young.
A memorial service will be held at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 20, 2018. Special thanks to Centra Hospice for their love and care and to Kela, Deborah, and Latricia for their personal care.
