The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will hold a design public hearing March 15 from 4-6 p.m. to discuss a $4.9 million safety improvement project at the intersection of U.S. Route 15 and Route 665, Abilene and Worsham roads in Prince Edward County.
According to County Administrator Wade Bartlett, the project will include increasing sight distance and turning lanes.
“It’s basically an improvement to the intersection at the Worsham Store where Abilene (Road) comes in on one side and Worsham (Road) comes in on the other and (U.S.) Route 15 is the north/south lane,” Bartlett said.
According to the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) compiled database, Traffic Records Electronic Data System (TREDS), since 2014 there have been six separate accidents at the U.S. Route 15 and Route 665 intersection.
According to a VDOT press release, the design public hearing is being held to provide an opportunity for citizens or organizations to give input on the project and will be held in an “open-house” format.
“VDOT representatives will be present to discuss the project and answer questions,” officials said in the press release. “Comments about the project may be submitted at the hearing or until March 25 — April 1 (if there is) inclement weather (at the original hearing date) — by mail to Ms. Laura Walton, Virginia Department of Transportation, 4219 Campbell Avenue, Lynchburg, VA 24501.”
Email comments can be sent to laura.walton@vdot.virginia.gov. VDOT asks that those sending comments reference “Route 15 Public Hearing Comments” in the subject heading.
Anyone requiring special assistance to attend and participate in this meeting may contact Laura Walton at (434) 856-8286, (800) 367- 7623 or TTY/TDD 711.
