A fire that resulted in a total loss of a home in Cumberland had involved the rescue of four puppies on Jan. 30.
Cumberland County Volunteer Fire Department was one of several departments that responded to a reported kitchen fire at a home at the intersection of Stoney Point Mill Lane and Stoney Point Road close to 5:30 a.m., Deputy Chief Bradley Ingle said.
“Crews arrived to find the structure was about 50 percent involved and all occupants out,” Ingle said. “Crews were able to find and remove four puppies, which were not harmed in the fire,” from the structure.
Ingle noted that Powhatan Volunteer Fire Department and Cartersville Volunteer Fire Department also assisted in the structure fire.
“Crews operated on scene for about four hours,” Ingle said.
Jaime Jackson — the daughter of Susan Jackson who lived in the home — said Susan and family members are currently staying with relatives.
Jaime said the puppies had come from a dog that had been given to her sister in the past.
“The community has been doing an awesome job of being there for my family, and they have gotten consistent donations of clothing,” Jaime said. “Aside from monetary donations and clothes, just offering support and comfort is the only other thing I can think of as it was very traumatic not only for my mom but for my nephews and nieces and older sister who resided in the home as well.”
A GoFundMe campaign has been started to help members of the Jackson family who lost their home. The page can be accessed here.
