Winning ways on the water

Hampden-Sydney College’s swimming team earned victories last weekend over Emory & Henry College and Greensboro College and is looking for two more this weekend. The Tigers visit Randolph College on Friday at 6 p.m., and they host Bridgewater College on Saturday at 2 p.m. In a 139-39 victory over Emory & Henry on Saturday, the team of Zach Stephan, Brady Updike, A.J. Howard and Brandon Koch won the 200-meter medley relay with a time of two minutes, 1.71 seconds. Conor Roberson, pictured above, placed first in the 800-meter freestyle, clocking in at 10:37.24. Koch took the top spot in the 50-meter freestyle, finishing in 27.11 seconds. Stephan completed the 200-meter individual medley in 2:31.03 to take top honors. Howard finished in 56.89 seconds in the 100-meter freestyle to win the gold. Roberson won the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 5:02.98, and John Dickerson took home the gold in the 100-meter breaststroke, finishing with a time of 1:17.12.The quartet of Eric Hope, Koch, Tate Socha and Howard won the 200-meter freestyle relay in a time of 1:53.72.
