Scouts help Christmas program

Buckingham Girl Scout Troop 164, consisting of Daises, Brownies and one Senior, collected and packaged 12 shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. The troop leaders are Angie Vaughn, Contina Peaks-Oliver and Denise Tyree.
Concord Baptist Church presented “One Christmas Candle” musical and drama on Sunday, Dec. 17. The choir provided musical Christmas carols while Becky Beasley and Renee Gutierrez portrayed characters that were discovering the true joy of Christmas. Numerous Concord church members were candleholders, representing how Christians should be light in the world. A reception was held following the production. Many churchgoers, along with community members, enjoyed this time of fellowship and worship.
The next meeting of the Buckingham Livestock club in January will showcase an educational program including a farm tour of S & R Meat Goats in Cumberland. The meeting discussion will be centered on members selecting their animals and beginning preparations for livestock projects. Holiday Lake Educational Center is offering a Natural Resources Weekend on Jan. 27-28, which is designed for youth ages 9-18 and is a great way to learn about natural resources. Workshop topics include Wildlife ID and Tracks, Survival Skills, Edible Insects, Snakes, Intro to Shotgun, 3-D Archery, Knot tying, Duck Decoy and more. This is a great weekend for a youth/parent bonding experience. For more information, call (434) 645-9315.
Central Virginia Community Health Center wants you to join them on Tuesday, Jan. 9 at 10 a.m. for Tai Chi and Wednesday, Jan. 10 at 5 p.m. for yoga. Start the New Year off right. Get your health on track.
The Buckingham Chamber of Commerce will hold its next meeting on Monday, Jan. 15 at 6:30 p.m. for their annual awards banquet to be held at the Dillwyn Fire Department. Tickets may be purchased at Moss Motor prior to the date or may be reserved by calling the chamber hotline at (434) 983-2372 and then paying at the door at the time of the event. There will also be a silent auction during the awards banquet. Anyone wishing to nominate a Volunteer, Youth Achiever, Business of the Year or Lifetime Achiever should submit their nomination in person to Moss Motor in Dillwyn or fax to 983-4891.
