Scholarships for the Cumberland County Public School Foundation, Inc., will begin Feb. 1, foundation chairman Bruce Robinson said.
He said applicants from Cumberland County High School are eligible for the scholarship.
“Our scholarships are offered to Cumberland High School graduates on a continual basis,” Robinson said. “As long as you have graduated from Cumberland High School and attended for at least your Junior and Senior year, you are eligible to receive one of its many scholarship for higher educational purposes.”
He said students received approximately $26,000 in scholarship funds from donors and organizations throughout the county.
“This year, we hope to be on target to give the same number of scholarships and close to the giving for 2017,” Robinson said.
He said the application period will begin Feb. 1 through March 15.
“All available scholarships can be applied for, using the generic application from the site and must be submitted electronically,” Robinson said. “As students read over the scholarships available, they are encouraged to communicate in their essay what their interests are. Individual donors will then have an opportunity to review the student’s applications and choose the applicant they feel best suit the desires of the donor’s requests mentioned in the application.”
More than 20 students from Cumberland County High School received scholarships in 2017 from organizations ranging from Centra Southside Community Hospital, Cumberland Clothes Closet, Southside Electric Cooperative, the Cumberland County Public School Foundation and several memorial scholarships, the website cited.
Robinson said members of the scholarship committee will meet after the application deadline to approve scholarship recipients and the amounts rewarded.
“The process wraps up on Senior Night for Cumberland High School where scholarships from the Foundation are announced and awarded to students in the presence of parents, family and friends,” Robinson said.
