Luther Rogers Dunkum Sr.

After a courageous battle with dementia, Luther Rogers Dunkum Sr. went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Jan. 12, 2018.

Roger was born April 2, 1946 in Buckingham County, a son of the late Conrad Eugene and Carrie Jones Dunkum. He was a retired supervisor for Kyanite Mining Corporation.

Roger will be remembered as a strong, hardworking man who loved his family and friends and would help them in any way he could. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter of rabbits and raccoons. He hunted as long as he was able and many family and friends enjoyed this time with him. He will also be remembered as one who loved fast cars and fast driving and many friends had to hold tight to their seats when riding with him.

He is survived by his children, Michelle Dunkum Shumaker, Luther Rogers Dunkum, Jr. and Anne Tyler LeSueur (Josh McFadden) and Daniel Franklin Jamerson who he loved like a son; sister, Nancy Shores and her husband, Ray; his grandchildren Amber Shumaker Call (Stephen), Tyler and Brianna LeSueur, Elizabeth Grace Dunkum, Gavin Dunkum and Annelynn McFadden; great-granddaughter, Allee Lynn Call; sister-in-law, Shelby Dunkum and his nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Dunkum, Sr. and his sister and brother-in-law, Hazel and J.C. Snoddy.

Funeral services were held on Jan. 16, 2018 at the Dunkum Funeral Home with interment in the Welcome Wesleyan Church Cemetery.
