Redbud Garden Club held its annual auction and Christmas party on Dec. 19, at the home of Ann Ligon with Janet Higgins and Alice Metts as co-hostesses. Higgins had composed a poem which she read to the group for devotions. Guests were Patty Brunette, Shelley Chapman, Debbie Kennel, Susan Oertel, Jan Pennington, Betty Radun, Jean Taylor and Sandy Wilkerson.

Auctioneer Patsy Miessler and her assistant, Janet Higgins, led the group in lively bidding on items such as candies, homemade mints, cookies, cakes, cheese straws and canned pickles. Decorative items were available for bid as well as flower arranging accessories and other items. Following the auction, members enjoyed the many refreshments they had brought.

Blue ribbons were awarded to Janet Higgins and Barbara Stimpson for “Under the Mistletoe,” a design featuring real or artificial mistletoe. Patsy Miessler, Nancy Schaeffer, and Joyce Thompson each received a red ribbon. “Peace on Earth,” an arrangement using candles and greenery, earned blue ribbons for Dottie Fahrner, Audrey Robinson, Geraldine Sanderson, and Jo Smith. Red ribbons were given to Rebecca Giles, Janet Higgins, Ann Ligon, April McBride, Alice Metts, and Nancy Schaeffer with a yellow going to Sarah Schember.
