Black History program set

Who doesn’t love a Girl Scout cookie? These yummy treats only come around once a year, and in buying yours, you can support local troops while enjoying some of the best cookies made. Contact Angie Vaughan at (434) 414- 6833 if you would like to order some and she will arrange pick up of your ordered cookies. Varieties include thin mints, s’mores, lemonades, thanks-a-lot, trios, caramel delights, peanut butter patties, peanut butter sandwiches and shortbread. Deadline to order is March 31. Don’t want to order in advance? No problem. Girl Scout troop 164 will be selling at local spots after the completion of the ordered sales. Don’t miss your chance.
Come get rid of some of those unwanted pounds. Central Virginia Community Health Center wants to offer you free use of the gym on Saturday. On Tues join them for Tai Chi at 10 a.m. and Wednesday at 5 p.m. is Yoga. Diabetic exercise is on Thursday, Jan. 18 at 10 a.m. For more information, call (434) 581-3271. See you there.
The Buckingham Solid Waste Management will be having aluminum-recycling day on Saturday, Jan. 20 from 9:30-11 a.m. at the Dillwyn dump site. Keep our highways and roads clean by bringing aluminum cans to be recycled while getting a little cash at the same time. That’s a win/win.
The next meeting of the Buckingham TRIAD will be on Jan. 12 at 1:30 p.m. at the VFW building in Buckingham, on U.S. Route 60 near the courthouse area. The TRIAD is intended to strengthen the partnerships between law enforcement, seniors, and the community.
Union Branch Baptist Church, with Pastor Faith Jones, will sponsor a Black History program on Jan. 14 at 3 p.m. Everyone is invited.
Old Man Winter is trying to hit us hard with cold and snow. Be sure to check on elderly neighbors and friends at this time. Stay warm out there.
