Annual Honors Jazz Ensemble held

The Prospect Volunteer Fire Department and Auxiliary held its Annual Holiday Celebration on Sunday at the firehouse. Michael Roach welcomed everyone and James Redford blessed the food. The meal prepared by Ben Murdock was delicious. Following the meal, reports were made on the activities of 2017. Prospect Supervisor David Emert installed the new officers. Reggie Eggleston announced Al Mason as the Fireman of the Year. Richard and Margaret Stockton were among the invited guest along with Julian and Edwin Covington.

The United Daughters of the Confederacy Chapter 45 met Wednesday, Dec. 13 for its Christmas Dinner meeting at Merk’s Place. Those attending were Kathryn Powell, of Blackstone, Deserae Bowlin, of Amelia, Susan Reynolds, of Spout Springs, Flora Bolt and Lynne Pridgen from Farmville and Deborah Lundeen from Prospect. After lunch Flora Bolt took a monetary donation from the chapter to Ruth Easter, a UDC member, in memory of her daughter, Rose Easter, also a UDC member.

On Friday, Jan. 12, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Stockton enjoyed a very relaxing rainy evening at Jarman Auditorium listening to the 23rd Annual Honors Jazz Ensemble and the 27th Annual Honors Concert Band in concert. These two groups are all high school students from nine counties. They were wonderful.

The Prospect Happy Hats met at Merk’s Place on Jan. 11 for good food and fellowship. Betty Sumner was hostess was joined by: Rita Rountree, Dolly Worthy, Margaret Stockton, Jean Hensley, Sue Case, Betty Meadows, Hilda Allen, Lois Johnson, Pat Smith, Elsie Wilson and Ann Norton,

Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Smith took their grandson Charles to Sheldon’s for dinner Sunday afternoon to celebrate his 19th birthday.

Monday evening Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Smith hosted the Faith Bible Fellowship small group covered dish dinner at their home. Attending were Mrs. Hilde Watson, Mr. and Mrs. Richard McClintock and Mr. and Mrs. John Utzinger.

On Tuesday Mrs. Brenda Walton of Powhatan and Mrs. Pat Smith met for breakfast at the Cumberland Restaurant.

Dr. William and Mrs. Carol Schall visited with Mr. and Mrs. Donald Meadows at their home on Saturday evening.

Mrs. Betty Sumner and Mr. and Mrs. Don Meadows enjoyed Sunday dinner yesterday at Ruby Tuesdays.

Farmville High School mates got together for lunch, Tuesday, Dec. 12 at the Woodlands in the Jefferson Dining Room. Those present were Flora Bradshaw Grant, class of 1946; Nolan Skinner, class of 1947; those in class of 1948 were Flora Woodson Bolt, Alice Linkin Bartlett, Martha Wilson Thompson, Dorothy Wood Wilkerson, Sydnor Newman with his new bride Eileen and Edna Clabo Wood, class of 1949. They enjoyed catching up on their latest events.

Henry Fulcher was the guest speaker at Appomattox P.E. Presbyterian at Tuggle on Sunday.

Jennifer Jones, Chris Bolt, Alexa Moser and Flora Bolt enjoyed lunch with Judy Bolt on Sunday.

Friends and neighbors are praying for a speedy recovery for Gwen Paulson, of Chester, Jeannette Tarlton, Frances Southall, Randy Martin and Betty Jean Bolt.

The members of Appomattox P.E. Presbyterian Church at Tuggle invite you to worship with them each Sunday. The Rev. Buddy Woodson will fill the pulpit this Sunday.

The membership of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church at Prospect invites you to come and worship with them every Sunday. Sunday School is at 10 a.m. with Worship at 11 a.m.
