The Virso Recreation and Community Center, located at 688 Virso Road in Meherrin, is holding an inaugural Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on Saturday from 4-6 p.m. The event will include face painting, music, caroling, hot chocolate, coffee, chili soup, hot dogs and Santa Claus.
“We had a tree up there last year, but we didn’t have a formal lighting,” said Leigh District Supervisor Jerry Townsend.
He said it’s “another opportunity for constituents in the district, people in the community, to come together, fellowship, celebrate, get to know each other, do a little caroling and kind of wish everyone a happy holiday.”
He said it’s sponsored by the Virso Recreation and Community Center Committee.
“We want to do this as an annual event,” Townsend said.
He said the event is completely free and those attending can take pictures with Santa Claus using their personal cameras.
“Again, Virso community coming together, pulling together to make it better, making it a safer and better place to live,” Townsend said.
