Members of a family were displaced from their home after a fire resulted in the total loss of a single-family house on 688 Monroe Church Road in Rice on Saturday.
According to information provided by a fire report from Rice Volunteer Fire Department, the call was received at the department at 8:14 a.m.
Rice Volunteer Fire Department responded to the incident, in addition to Farmville Volunteer Fire Department, Meherrin Volunteer Fire Department and Hampden-Sydney Volunteer Fire Department, the report cited.
A representative from the Rice department and reports from the department’s dispatch center cited that the fire appeared to have started in the garage and had spread to the rest of the house.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, the representative cited.
The fire resulted in a total loss of the house, the fire report cited, and a husband, wife and young child were outside the house when responders arrived.
Cameron Hall, Melanie Hall and their 2-year-old daughter are currently staying with a neighbor, Cameron said in a phone interview Tuesday morning.
When asked what supplies were most needed, Cameron said Walmart gift cards would best allow them to purchase groceries, rewrap Christmas gifts and purchase clothing and nursery supplies for Melanie, who is 22 weeks pregnant with a girl.
Cameron said Melanie wears a medium in maternity clothing, sizes 9-10 in socks, and their daughter wears size 4T. Cameron wears work clothing pants size 36×34.
“We ask everyone to keep us in your thoughts in prayers,” Cameron said.
He said he and his family have been overwhelmed by support shown by people in the community.
“The community has absolutely been a blessing to us,” Cameron said. “We’re OK, we’re happy and we’re loved and we’re so grateful for everything people have done already.”
A GoFundMe fundraiser has been started for the Hall family by Cameron’s sister. The fundraiser can be accessed at www.gofundme.com/npgqwa-hall-family.
