Coy Roland ‘Buddy’ Sams

Coy Roland “Buddy” Sams, 75 of Cumberland, VA passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, Dec. 3, 2017, held securely in the arms of his wife of 50 years, Judith Peters Sams.
Buddy is survived by his wife, their daughter and son- in- law, Jennifer and Michael Turner and their three cherished grandchildren, Michael (Zan), Hayes and Peyton Turner. He is also survived by two sisters, Frieda Newman and Elinor Godsey, and one brother Eugene Sams. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law who loved him like a brother, Carolyn Helgeson and Rebecca Peters; nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Buddy served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam conflict and returned home to work in Landover, Maryland as a decorator. He was always proud of decorating the White House and the National Christmas tree every year in addition to decorating for and attending the Inaugural Balls for several United States Presidents. After moving back to the Cumberland area, he worked at Truxmore Industries in Richmond and retired from The Lumber Yard in Farmville, VA.
A celebration of Buddy’s life will be held on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017 at 5 p.m. in the chapel of Puckett Funeral Home, Farmville, Virginia. Family will receive friends from 3 – 5 p.m. the day of the service in the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to an Education Fund for the grandchildren to Judith P. Sams, 36 Trents Mill Road, Cumberland, VA 23040.
