Urban Ag Field Day is free and open to the public. To be held Nov. 2 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at Virginia State University (VSU), located at 535 Beech St. in Petersburg. Urban agriculture helps to alleviate urban food deserts, make food as local and fresh as possible and decrease the “food miles” associated with long-distance transportation. It provides a wide range of community benefits, including closer neighborhood ties, reduced crime, education and job training opportunities and healthy food access for low-income residents. Participants will enjoy a hands-on field day to talk about fall gardening. Speakers include: Mike Jackson, president of Think, Then Choose Wisely; Dr. Leonard Githinji, Sustainable and Urban Agriculture Extension specialist; and William Crutchfield, VSU Small Farm Outreach. For more information, contact www.ext.vsu.edu or call (804) 524-5960.

Yoga is offered Wednesday at 5 p.m. and Toddlers on the Move round out the week on Friday, Nov. 10, at 11 a.m. For more information, call the health center at (434) 581-3271.
